Organizing a cleanup event in Montenegro

We’re thrilled to see your enthusiasm for creating positive change in our neighborhood. Whether you’re a seasoned environmental activist or someone passionate about keeping our streets clean, your commitment to organizing a cleanup event is truly commendable. Together, we can make a real difference in improving the beauty and health of our community. Thank you for stepping up to lead the way towards a cleaner, greener future for all of us. Let’s get started!

Step 1: Create a Facebook Event

The first step is to create a Facebook event to spread the word and invite fellow citizens to join in: we recommend you to create your event directly in the Cleanup Montenegro Facebook calendar with your organization as co-host to get more visibility for your event. Be sure to include all the necessary details such as the date, time, meeting point, and purpose of the cleanup. Additionally, list all the collaborators and potential sponsors of the event.

Step 2: Gather Supplies

Encourage participants to bring their reusable or garden gloves to protect their hands during the cleanup. See if you can borrow some from one of the coalition members, or make a request to your municipality to provide you some for your upcoming events. Having the right equipment is essential for a successful cleanup.

Step 4: Coordinate with Municipal Services

Contact the company in your municipality responsible for waste collection (usually Cistoca) to arrange for the pickup of the garbage bags at the end of the collection. Set a clear location and time with them and remind them on the day itself.

Step 5: Provide Refreshments

Keep participants hydrated by organizing drinking water in large containers to avoid the use of single-use plastic bottles. Encourage participants to bring their reusable bottles, and plan to have a few reusable glasses on hand just in case. Read here how to organize Zero Waste food and drinks at events.

Tips for a Successful Cleanup

  • End the collection where you want the bags to be collected for pickup by the municipality.
  • Plan for a collection time of 1 to 1.5 hours maximum to keep participants engaged and motivated.
  • Consider organizing some fun activities like games, swimming, or music at the end of the cleanup to reward participants and build community spirit.
  • Check out the Zero Waste Lifestyle page on our website for more ideas on reducing waste and living sustainably.

By following these simple steps and tips, you can organize a successful cleanup event in your neighborhood and make a positive impact on the environment. Together, we can work towards a cleaner, greener Montenegro for generations to come. Join us and be part of the change!
