16.02.2024: Earlier this week, the NGO Zero Waste Montenegro sent an open letter to the representatives of the company Deponija Podgorica and the Capital City of Podgorica in which we express our concern regarding the announcement of the planned project for the construction of a bioenergy plant and an incinerator in Podgorica. With this letter, we want to warn about the potential risks that this project poses to the environment and public health, share our knowledge and draw attention to the problematic nature of the proposed plant.
We believe that abandoning the construction is necessary, supported by relevant practices throughout the European Union and the principles of the hierarchy of priorities in waste management. We hope that this reaction will serve as a basis for opening a dialogue about alternative solutions that do not entail economic and health risks but are in line with the principles of the circular economy and legal regulations.
