In July, more than 200 participants, including a representative from the NGO “Zero Waste Montenegro,” attended the 2024 International Zero Waste Cities Conference (IZWCC) and Methane Summit held in Tanzania. The gathering aimed to bring together representatives from various sectors (civil society, construction, finance, waste collectors) from all over the world to discuss some of the key challenges facing those working in zero-waste cities.
Alongside the ZWMNE representative, members of Zero Waste Europe (ZWE) from France, Poland, and Portugal also attended the event. Vanja Cicmil, Director of ZWMNE, who led a panel on best practices in food waste prevention and management, noted that connecting with colleagues enabled her to learn much.

Global platforms like this conference are vital because they bring together diverse perspectives and experiences. They allow us to learn from each other, share best practices, and build a stronger, unified movement towards zero waste.

She emphasised that this experience highlighted the importance of citizen engagement. She believes that in Montenegro, ZWMNE will be able to make progress in this area. They want to focus more on involving local communities and informal waste collectors in our projects. The conference and summit were held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, at the beginning of July 2024.
